Try to see the patterns in what you are doing. It will help you find your authentic voice.
Start by understanding the motivations behind your actions. What causes you to do something? What’s the driving force behind it? What need are you trying to fulfil?
Motivations are archaic and powerful. They speak from our inside. They are to our personality what hunger is to our body. They feed us and shape us. Motivations are an infinite source of energy within us. They are rejuvenating.
We are running on motivations just like an electric car is running on a battery pack.
The question is whether we harness the energy from our motivations to propel us forward.
Are you tapping into your motivations or are you running on a substitute?
If we reach for goals ignoring our motivations, we are squandering energy. We will run out of fuel. To make up for the lack of propulsion, we resort to substitutes like self-denial and neglect. We run into debt.
Ask yourself if the motivations behind your actions align with your goals. Are they in sync?
The patterns of what you are doing will tell you if there is a mismatch. Have you lost passion? Are you drifting off course? How come there is a conflict?
Was it truly you who defined your goals? Have you listened to your motivations first?
Ignoring our motivations when reaching for goals is unsustainable. If we supplement them, we will head towards unhappiness, dissatisfaction and fatigue.
Only if we align who we really are with where we are going, we can thrive.
